“Life changing” is how my teammates would describe their own Courts For Kids experience year after year. Now having experienced this trip first hand I can confirm that this trip is indeed life changing!
In just four days, we worked hand in hand with the locals to complete the court! Each day began with an eager wake-up, followed by heading to the construction site where we tackled large rocks with pickaxes, hauled 100-pound bags of cement, formed assembly lines to move buckets of sand and rock, and mixed cement. We all felt immensely successful and proud of our teamwork.
When we weren’t working on the court, we immersed ourselves in the local culture, learning panamanian dances and how to prepare traditional meals. This experience demonstrated how communities and cultures can unite despite a language barriers. Through sport, laughter, shared experience and love we were able to communicate. The connections we were able to foster and the fun we shared together transcended words. This trip taught me that sport and movement is a language in its own and that it has the beautiful ability to build meaningful connections no matter where you are in the world.
Heres the link to a reflection I wrote, that was later posted on the official Courts for Kids instagram while we were in Panama!
